Roger Dale Loring, a former school teacher and coach in Gloucester has recently had his second book published. The book—I Don't Text While Driving, Walking, or Standing Still—offers his humorous views on life from the perspective of his "if-they-don't-have-a-senior-discount-I'm-not-going-there" age.
Realizing that the aging process evolved in a way that his adolescent mind never envisioned, Loring now finds his views on life changes are disturbingly similar to the old people of his youth, people he frequently criticized as old fogies. His essays highlight his humorous take on life that include opinions about issues such as cell phone upgrades, a man's attention span while using a television remote, his wife's seasonal purse shopping, the differing conversation patterns of men and women, the difficulties of watching sports on TV, the world of politics, where preaching to the choir dominates all campaigns, and, of course, the trauma of buying toothpaste.
The book shares many essays illustrating that a baby boomer's journey through an increasingly complicated world often is a journey full of laughter. Roger Dale Loring is the author of Why Men Don’t Ask For Directions. He was born in the small town of Keokuk, Iowa. After graduating from the University of Iowa, he joined the Teacher Corps and came to Virginia, where he earned a master’s degree from Hampton Institute.
He taught school in Gloucester, Virginia for thirty-two years. Much of the time he can now be found on a golf course, where his primary goal is not to hurt any of his fellow golfers.
