Don Beck is a retired English teacher and newspaper columnist. Beck attended Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan and has many degrees including a Bachelor of Arts in English and Sociology. He taught in public schools for a total of 36 years in Detroit and Fenton, Michigan, retiring in 2006. A lifelong Michigander, Beck grew up on the East Side of Detroit, and survived the ordeal of growing up with five brothers and one sister. He currently resides in Fenton, MI with his wife of over 45 years, Carol. He has two grown children, Elizabeth and Andrew, and numerous grandchildren.
